Lawson Announces Personnel Changes

2005/02/10
LAWSON,INC. has announced personnel changes of the executive members.
Through reforms based on the Lawson Challenge 2004 management policy launched in 2001, the Company has created an operating framework capable of generating higher earnings, rolled out a range of new services, and successfully focused on nurturing product categories such as Onigiriya.

LAWSON, now approaching its fourth year under the leadership of President and CEO Takeshi Niinami, will begin a new effort to become "the 'hot' station in the neighborhood." By reforming its organizational structure and making personnel changes to achieve the goals of Lawson Challenge 2007, LAWSON, as the innovative leader in the convenience store industry, will seek new challenges and create a corporate culture that helps its employees to grow and develop.

Backed by this new corporate culture, LAWSON will work to create more individualized stores and establish an earnings structure that incorporates the tenets and productivity improvements of today's evolving service industry. And as a company that encourages its people and organizations to develop, LAWSON will strive to build stores more closely in tune with local areas and communities, further reenergize existing stores, and reinforce its franchise store support system. In this way, LAWSON will create stores that win even greater support from customers through a stronger focus on local communities.

Organizational Change (Effective March 1, 2005)

Key Points of Change
· A new CSR Promotion Office reporting directly to President Takeshi Niinami will be set up to actively drive forward CSR activities, a key element of Lawson Challenge 2007.
· With the remit of fostering employee development and creating a more effective and rewarding working environment, the Human Resources Station will be given new functions and come under the direct control of the President.
· The administrative areas of the operating divisions will be aligned with those of the development divisions to reinforce the framework for implementing regional strategy.
· Employee education and training and personnel, currently the responsibility of the FC Support Division, will be transferred to independent organizations under each regional manager.
